Milo Hilario

Although he is the Chief Instructor at Apex Martial Arts, Milo considers himself a student first and foremost. He has a strong passion for learning and teaching, and strives to make his classes challenging, technical, and fun. Milo has trained in a variety of martial arts for over 20 years, with experience in Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai,Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Marcy Hilario

Marcy has been practicing Kickboxing for over 18 years, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over ten years. She enjoys leading intense Kickboxing workouts, and motivating the class to do their very best.

Max Nguyen

Max has a successful track record as a top-finisher in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, both in Canada and the United States. Along with his strong fighting spirit, Max also has a friendly and easy-going nature, which comes through in his instructional style.

Alvin Chan

Alvin has over nine years of experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, that started at a Gracie Humaita (Royler Gracie) affiliate academy.  In 2013, Alvin began traveling to train with Henry Akins, a renowned instructor of Rickson Gracie’s expression of the art, gaining a deeper understanding of what makes core techniques effective.  In 2014, Alvin successfully completed the Gracie Combatives program, achieving recognition for an understanding of how Jiu-Jitsu is applied in practical self-defense against a larger, stronger opponent. Alvin focuses his Jiu Jitsu instruction on the pursuit of solid, effective fundamentals. His goal is to help educate others with concepts and methods that are reliable under pressure, and applicable to all major aspects of the art: sport gi, sport no-gi, and street self-defense.

Derek Fung

Derek started his martial arts journey with Korean Hapkido in 2001, eventually becoming an instructor, and a member of the public demonstrations team. In 2010, he transitioned to training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing at Apex Martial Arts. Derek always strives to learn and improve, and when not at the academy, can be found staying active with other sports such as hockey and volleyball. Derek’s aim is to help others reach their goals in health, fitness, sport Jiu-Jitsu, and self-defence - always while training in a safe and fun environment.

Chris Ang

Chris started his Jiu-Jitsu training in 2006, at a Gracie Humaita (Royler Gracie) affiliate academy, and joined Apex in 2012. In 2013, Chris represented Apex at the Roots Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Challenge, winning a Gold Medal. Having visited and trained at a variety of different Jiu-Jitsu Academies such as Henry Akins Dynamix Martial Arts, Marcelo Garcia NYC Academy, Kron Gracie Academy, and the Torrance California Gracie Academy - Chris likes to teach a comprehensive style of Jiu-Jitsu that covers both the sport and self-defense aspects of the art.

Dave Wu

Dave enjoys sharing his knowledge about both the physical and mental aspects of Jiu-Jitsu. He believes that having a solid understanding of the basics is the most important factor for success in the art, regardless of where it’s applied: sport gi Jiu Jitsu, submission grappling, MMA, or self-defence.
Dave has also trained in Judo, Muay Thai, and Kung Fu.

Brent Leung

Brent has been training Muay Thai for 9 years, including experience learning the art in Thailand. He has also practised Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Apex since 2012.  Brent has a passion for Martial Arts, and loves the physical and mental benefits of training.  He is an active competitor in both kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu.

Ken Su

Ken has been assisting in teaching the Junior programs since 2014, and likes to bring his knowledge of competitive sport Jiu Jitsu to the kids in a fun and safe manner.
